HEARTSTOPPER SEASON 3

With a glimpse into the new season of our favourite coming-of-age drama, we delve into all the questions we hope will get answered this autumn.

Heartstopper Season 3 is out in October, and we have a new teaser to keep us glued to our screens until then. Showing our favourite characters getting older, the forthcoming storylines will tackle everything from mental health to sex to university plans. “This season, Charlie would like to tell Nick that he loves him,” Netflix states. “Nick also has something important to say to Charlie… As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan.”

Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, series creator Alice Oseman explains, “While Heartstopper will always celebrate the joyful and point towards hope, I’m really excited that we are allowing the tone of the show to mature alongside our beloved characters growing up.”

As we gear up for more of the coming-of-age series we’ve come to know and love, we take a look at all the unanswered questions from Season 2 and what we hope to see flourish this autumn.

Watch the teaser…

Is it happily ever after for Elle and Tao?

Throughout Season 2, we saw Tao and Elle find their way to one another in a beautiful friends-to-lovers arc. Elle, however, has to balance her blooming romance, friends, and ambitions as she finds herself accepted to Lambert, a renowned art school with a vibrant queer community. As Tao struggles to picture his life with her away, Elle grows overwhelmed. But as the season wrapped, she made her decision to go to Lambert and she made things official with Tao. Talk about a happy ending. But if we know anything about teen dramas, it’s that a happy ending is just the beginning. Will Elle officially head off to Lambert? Will the lovebirds stay solid?

How is Charlie doing?

In classic Heartstopper fashion, the juicy love and teen hormones intertwine with serious discussions of mental health. The most prominent of these storylines lies in Charlie’s anxiety and Nick’s discovery of how deeply rooted the struggles might be. As we see at the end of the season, communication is key, and it’s a beautiful portrayal of just how important it is for young people (and everyone). As the two prepare to declare their love for one another, will their communication continue?

And… how is Darcy?

In one of the most dramatic plots of the second season, Tara realises that her girlfriend might be hiding quite a bit from her. On prom night, Darcy goes missing, and Tara starts to piece together her shaky relationship with her mother — whom she is not out to — and what lies beneath her typically confident exterior. Will they be able to get through this? Will it make them stronger?

What’s next for Issac?

Sweet, introverted Issac got a bigger plotline in Season 2, and we were so grateful for it. Throughout the series, we’ve seen him contemplate his sexuality, looking at other relationships and figuring out where he might fit. After he’s approached with a potential love interest, he begins to explore the idea that he might not be interested in anyone. Taken by an installation at Lambert exploring aromantic and asexual, he sees himself in the art and begins to discover who he might be. We can’t wait to see him flourish even further.

More teacher romance?

In any high school drama, there’s a debate about whether the teacher plotlines are as juicy and worthwhile as their student counterparts. In Heartstopper, Mr. Ajayi and Mr. Farouk share a hotel room (and a steamy night) in Paris. By the end of the season, they casually and open-endedly plan a future date.
