Mustafa gives a masterclass in balladry, 4batz recruits Drake, and HOMESHAKE gets deep in his midwest emo bag: here’s Wonderlist!

Mustafa – “Imaan”

One of the most impressive modern songwriters, Mustafa knows his way around a ballad. His latest, “Imaan”, sees him combine his Sudanese influences with American folk tendencies for a gentle, engrossing and gregarious cut that delves into love, religion and culture.

4batz ft. Drake – “act ii: date @ 8”

An artist who has profited from the 0-100 etiquette of TikTok virality, the elusive talent of 4batz has quickly become impossible to avoid. His rise is epitomised with his new release, a remixed version of his sophomore cut “act ii: date @ 8”, which recruits one of the very biggest, Drake for a sleek featured performance. Is 4batz to be this year’s Ice Spice? Most likely.

HOMESHAKE – CD Wallet

Toronto-based musician Peter Sagar – aka HOMESHAKE – is one of the most interesting voices in modern music. Today, he unveils his six full length album, CD Wallet, a project that sees him reflect on his childhood in relation to his current life. It’s moody, nostalgic and cerebral, as Sagar combines grunge, indie, rock and more, offering a comprehensive, conceptual and cohesive glimpse into his inner artistry.

Yaya Bey – “sir princess bad bitch”

Brooklyn-native Yaya Bey is amongst the most striking performers and writers of the modern day scene. Genre-elusive, her latest cut “sir princess bad bitch” sees her increase hype even further for a forthcoming LP, Ten Fold. Accompanied by a self-directed visual, the new single is atmospheric but vibrant, with Bey exploring the complexities of her identity as a genderqueer person.

Porji – “Unpredictable”

Carving a niche in Queer-led dance-pop, impressive four piece Porji look set to crash into the mainstream with the forthcoming debut album, Teething, set for release in late April. They’ve said a fresh look at the project through darkly groovy new single, “Unpredictable”. A fine vocal performance, encompassing production and sharp songwriting make this one of the band’s finest singles to date.

Mura Masa – “still”

One of the UK’s most revered producers and DJs, Mura Masa continues his stoking hot form with his latest meticulous and and club-tinged banger. “still” sees Mura masterfully manipulate a sample from British pop singer Griff, concocting a subtle, immersive and forward-thinking cut that further illustrates his endearing style.

Arrdee x Favé – “Time”

Brighton’s premium MC Arrdee has become a staple of the scene in recent years, and continues to progress his sound and reach with this new track. “Time” sees him join forces with French rapper Favé for a track that illustrates focus, lyrical acumen and the ability to find sonic pockets outside of what is expected of him.

潘PAN – “Ghosts”

Unique, challenging and highly creative, 潘PAN is an artist unafraid to push boundaries and question what pop music can be. The Taiwanese maverick has unveiled her incredible new EP, “Ghosts”. From the anxiety-inducing title track to the serene yet gothic closer, it’s an enthralling and powerful listen.

Jordy – “SNM”

For years now, London spitter Jordy has been one of the most promising talents in UK rap. Lately though, he has stepped up in terms of post quality and quantity. He’s back with another EP, “SNM”, which sees him at his story-telling best over unassuming and eclectic instrumentals, enlist grime legend JME and his cousin Elt Cheekz for impressive contributions.

AY – “Mean It”

AY has been building serious affiliations with one of the most important cultural markers in the UK, Skepta, recently making his acting debut across the grime legend’s acclaimed short film Tribal Mark. Now collecting his stripes as an important new voice across the landscape, the young talent delivers his brand-new cut “Mean It”; bursting with dark piano licks and spacey vocals, the infectious trap textures become a perfect foundation for AY to flex his smart, intricate wordplay balancing a journey through love, growth and development – an electric narration of the vigorous lifestyle and ambitions of inner-city youth culture.

Niko B ft. dexter in the newsagent – “trespass coat”

Fast rising UK artist Niko B is set to released his debut album, dog eat dog food world, on 24th May. He’s returned with the latest teaser from the record, “trespass coat”, which sees the Milton Keynes native link up with South London songwriter dexter in the newsagent for a bouncy, playful number.

SamRecks – “BACK BONE”

SamRecks, aka REKKI, drops off sleek new offering “BACK BONE”, his first release of 2024 and the follow up to the rising star’s widely acclaimed EP “Easier Said Than Done” last year. The self-produced new single comes alongside a captivating set of visuals shot in Bali, directed, and edited, all by Sam himself. Having sourced every member of the crew (lighting locals from Bali, camera persons from Australia and model from Miami) browsing through Instagram, this latest release continues to showcase a rare, subtle talent that underlines REKKI as a significant new artist in the landscape.

néomi – “someone new”

The hype around Dutch songstress néomi is much warranted. Following a few EP’s that saw her rise through the folk ranks, she’s drawing us eber closer to her debut album, somebody’s daughter, set for release on 3rd May. She’s shared a new teaser, a glitchy, warm and consuming track that showcases néomi’s fantastic vocal presence, song structuring finesse and songwriting acumen.

Citizen Papes – “For You”

Scottish newcomer Citizen Papes is the creative project of JP O’Grady, a fresh and assured voice in the alt R&B space. His debut cut, “For You”, is an endoscopic, groovy and heartfelt number that sounds like spring. Catch on early – you’ll be hearing a lot of Papes in the coming months, we think!

Fears ft. Aga Ujma – “cliff”

Dublin-born, London-based multi-facet Fears is rising through the ranks with her raw and gently rousing sonic approach. Set to unveil affinity, her new album, later this month, she returns with “cliff”, a subtle, haunting and dazzling track that meanders through her state of mind.

Raf-Saperra – “5 Deadly Venomz”

British Punjabi visionary underground phenomenon Raf-Saperra, unleashes his groundbreaking new project “5 Deadly Venomz”, delivering a series of seamless rap-fusion tracks, interlacing NYC lyricism from the street’s brightest minds with London’s popping Bhangra flavours and iykyk Punjabi talent. Upping the levels again with what must be one of the most enthralling cross-Atlantic collaborative projects of the year, tapping up GRISELDA’s Conway The Machine, Dave East and Big Body Bes, Raf fuses his indigenous Bhangra sound with some of the most critically-acclaimed rappers in the rap landscape right now.

Nieve Ella – “The Things We Say”

Rising West-Midlands singer-songwriter Nieve Ella had a huge 2023, and started the year off strongly with a sold out headline tour in February. Now she’s back with her first single of the year, “The Things We Say”, a rousing indie-pop cut that features a soaring vocal performance and vivid, introspective songwriting from Ella.

iagö – “The Chemical Wedding”

British multidisciplinary musician, artist, composer and designer Theodore Ian Iagö, aka iagö, has just dropped off his debut EP,”The Chemical Wedding”. Home to five immaculately produced tracks, the new project acts as a timely reminder of iagö’s innate ability in crafting some of the most thought-provoking electronic music to date and highlights his natural skill in creating transportive soundscapes — from the ethereal sonics of project-opener “The Message”, to the squelching acidic synth lines of “Blood and Rust”.

Bru-C – “Wild”

Nottingham’s Bru-C is offering UK rap a new avenue with his uncompromising and emotive approach to MCing. His new cut, “Wild”, sees him glide atop production from fast rising beatsmith Bou and long-time collaborator Shapes. Hypnotic, narrative-led and with a nuanced vocal performance from Bru-C, it’s a must hear track for any DnB heads.

Two Door Cinema Club – “Happy Customer”

One of the most prominent indie pop bands of the 2010s, Two Door Cinema Club have long since been synonymous with anthems. They are back with a new single, “Happy Customers”, doing what they do best. It’s a sentimental, bright and likeable track that feels reminiscent of their early sound, and will surely go down well this summer, with the three piece lining up a stacked festival period.

Laicositna – Deal With It

Continuing the blend of sonic innovation and languid confident lyrics that has made the London young star one of the most eye-catching new names of 2024, Deal With It effortlessly displays Laicositna’s distinctive lyricism, outlining a narrative of nostalgia and early personal experiences dipping into fashion, love interests and deeper life experiences alike. Consisting of ten intricately interwoven soundtracks, Laicositna takes the listener on a mesmerising journey from the smooth tones of lead-single “Option”, to the jazz-infused notes of “Make A Change”, showcasing his innate ability in crafting some of the most forward thinking music emanating out of these shores right now.

Jean Dawson — “New Age Crisis”

Mexican-American genre shapeshifter Jean Dawson is one of those brilliant voices that shine too brightly to be overlooked. Following his remarkable 2023, which included a collaboration with SZA and headlining festivals, he starts the new year on an equally exciting note with his new bilingual EP, ‘Boohoo’, out now. The EP’s opening track, ‘New Age Crisis’, is a brilliantly layered piece that solidifies Dawson’s position as a sonic powerhouse, blending inspirations from gospel, rock, and alternative sounds with his R&B-meets-hip-hop aesthetic.

Zsela — “Fire Escape”

New York-born and LA-based singer Zsela is gearing up for a strong comeback in 2024, following a three-year hiatus since the release of her critically acclaimed EP “Ache of Victory” in 2020. Her new track, “Fire Escape”, is bouncy, warm, and inviting — a strong start that teases what’s to come from her debut album, set for release in spring 2024 on Mexican Summer.

Amen Dunes — “Boys”

Amen Dunes, the musical project of New York City-based Damon McMahon, has announced his long-awaited new album, “Death Jokes,” to be released on May 10th via Sub Pop. Today, he unveils his latest single, “Boys,” accompanied by a video directed by Steven Brahms and single art by the late photographer Ross McDonnell. Originally written by McMahon in 2015, the track began as a pop-punk song before morphing into improvised electronic music, filled with frenetic drum machines and siren samples overlayering McMahon’s double-tracked voice and guitar. “‘Boys’ is another interstitial character portrait, this time about outcasts, ‘bad kids,’ and seeing things from their side: ‘Everything you’ve done, it’s been done to you too,” he says.
