Settled within the highest echelons of UK Rap, the Essex trailblazer delivers an enthralling, endearing and eloquent new mixtape.

UK rap can often be divisive. Lack of thematic depth and musical vision is rife more than ever in the increasingly clout-led scene, causing the boundaries of authentic and derivative to blur. One rapper who stands clear of this however, is MOBO award-winning Essex-native Potter Payper.

Now, following up his seminal ’21 tape “Thanks For Waiting”, he returns with “Thanks For Hating”, effortlessly outshining his contemporaries.

Across the 18-pronged body of work, Payper further cements his visionary talent; his raspy, dominating tones are more assured than ever, riding robust and ominous instrumentals with a sharp certainty in the ideas he is portraying. Lyrically, Payper balances a pensive nature with a ferocious frustration, vivid in this story-telling, exploring his past, life in inner-city Britain, and current situation.

The feature list is a mouthwatering cacophony of established industry favourites, like Headie One, Nafe Smallz and Clavish, and emerging talents from across the country like Slim, ADMT and Marnz Malone. A seamless mix, Payper shows his ability to adapt, and great chemistry with the motley cast.

“Thanks For Hating” is the work of a cultured wordsmith at the top of his game. It’s passionate, thoughtful and without comprise, and empathic proof that Potter Payper is one of the UK’s very best rap talents.
