Coca-Cola’s new initiative has shaken up more than the holiday season — it has showed us a fresh and exciting way that AI can be used to enhance creativity and aid in moving us towards a more inclusive place. Introducing the CreateReal Magic tool, they have given people everywhere the opportunity to entirely customise their own holiday cards — generating one-of-a-kind images that reflect one’s individualised culture, festive traditions, and familial memories. Maximum personalisation and fantastical possibilities allow users to represent themselves as their most authentic selves.

One such user is none other than Winnie Harlow. A household name whose work in the fashion and beauty industries champions diversity and advocates for representation, the supermodel and entrepreneur has designed her own set of holiday cards — drawing on her connections to places she holds dear, loved ones who remind her of the season, and the interests and passions that make her who she is. From the fashion-infused “December Issue” to the “Joy in Jamaica” and “Cozy in Canada” cards inspired by her Christmases with family, she let the CreateReal Magic tool take her creativity to new places.

“I was really excited to do something based on inclusivity in the holidays,” Harlow tells me as we discuss the project. “My career has been so aligned with representation and being able to be seen, and the CreateReal Magic AI tool is so interesting. It’s so easy to create a holiday card for your loved ones, your family or friends that represent you or them or just your holiday vibes in general. So I thought that was really fun and cool and important too, because even though maybe you don’t think of a holiday card all year round, it is something that is very special and personal that you get to send to your loved ones… and being able to have that personal touch to it, making it really feel like you, is a beautiful thing.”

Speaking on how the industry can use AI and other technologies to increase inclusivity, she explains that it is all in the way we use the tools. “What I really like about using it in this way for this application that Coca-Cola has created is it’s not replacing anyone. It’s added to our own creativity and imagination as humans.”

That’s the beauty of Coca-Cola’s project, and the magic of the holiday season as a whole: the beautiful balance of imagination backed by technology with the heart, soul, and hand of humanity. For Winnie Harlow, she’s logging off for now to spend time with family — and bake her signature dish, “a mean pumpkin pie.”
