2023 has been a year of change, a whirlwind, a lucid dream. I’ve been granted the chance to travel, to experience and to divulge the mind of some of the best talent around. To celebrate a progressive year, I’ve rounded up my 10 favourite Wonderland Online features. From raving in Amsterdam to fashion trips to Manchester and interviewing heroes: it’s been a ride!

AFTERS WITH LITTLE SIMZ

Little Simz has long since been one of my favourite artists, a creative that I’ve been desperate to pick the brain of. So when the opportunity came to chat with her ahead of her Amex Afters show for All Points East came up, I jumped out of my skin. We connected over zoom, discussing Top Boy, NO THANK YOU, and what’s next.

KAFE RAVES, BUBBLICIOUS & GIANT BEARS: A TRIP TO AMSTERDAM

I was invited to Amsterdam by globally-renowned producer Mason to witness his marvellously zany event series, Kafe Raves. A rave crawl across dilapidated cafes and restaurants, I experienced a night of love, community and beautifully odd occurrences – not to mention the Bubblicious Boys.

YUSSEF DAYES: AN ARCHITECT OF RHYTHM

Yussef Dayes doesn’t like being defined as a jazz drummer. It’s something that, during our encounter in a Peckham coffee shop, we slightly disagreed on. He’s right though. He’s so much more than that. Black Classical Music is a phenomenal album, one of the year’s best, and shows Dayes to be a visionary composer, musical director and creative powerhouse. We delved into his childhood infatuation with rhythm, his collaborations, and his long-awaited debut solo album.

MOSS: REINVENTING THE CLASSIC

Anyone that knows me knows that I’m far from a fashion expert (please don’t tell my boss), but when I was invited up to Manchester to learn more about iconic menswear brand Moss (formerly Moss Bros), I felt it was the perfect occasion to test out my writing chops. I found a company in transition, trying to augment not only their own portfolio, but their overaching message and their environmental impact. They also put on a pretty good party.

OLIVER LAM-WATSON: PROVING THE POINT

The mind of a winner is an interesting place to get to know. Oliver Lam-Watson is one of the most determined men I’ve ever met. When I encounter the wheelchair fencing Paralympic medalist, we shared an hour of emotional potency; Oliver shared his journey, doubts and dreams to me without filter. A refreshing honesty rarely found in the media world, Watson is an inspiration figure to anyone looking to overcome adversity.

COCO JONES: A STAR IS BORN

It’s not everyday that you get to interview a multi-Grammy nominee! It’s been a huge year for R&B’s next big thing, Coco Jones: she’s released her debut project to critical acclaim, swiftly became a household name, and received five nods for the biggest awards in music. I went down to her show at Koko earlier this month, linking up beforehand, and delving into her odyssey towards stardom.

WATERGATE, EDVARD MUNCH & NEW FRIENDS: A TRIP TO BERLIN

Berlin is perhaps my favourite city. It’s so rich, full of vitality, and they sure know how to enjoy themselves. I was invited over by Watergate, one of the city’s most historic nightclubs, to experience its culture and nightlife. I fell in love with Edvard Munch, met an eclectic array of individuals, and learnt plenty about myself in the process.

KOJAQUE: DUBLIN’S CHAMPION

Irish maverick Kojaque is a fiercely unique artist. I’ve been a fan since his early days, following his path closely, and witnessing the birth of a legacy firsthand. I spoke with him a few months back, covering everything from moving to London and its impact on his superb sophomore record, the Irish scene, and working with the legend that is Wiki.

RISE FESTIVAL, SNOWBALL FIGHTS & A FAILURE TO SKI: A TRIP TO THE ALPS

My most recent escapade abroad saw a failed attempt to learn how to ski, a lot of cheese eaten, and a visit to ‘the party on top of the world’ – Rise Festival. Heading out to the South of France for a week of hitting the slopes and hearing the best DnB artists around, I found my festival fix in the most unexpected of places – a mountain’s summit.

THE EFFERVESCENCE OF ELENI DRAKE

There’s something infatuating about the folk-driven sound of Eleni Drake. I met her in Notting Hill in the height of summer to discover the woman behind the voice. We went record shopping, grabbed a pint, and unpicked her psyche. A lovely human with the loveliest tunes, if you don’t know her, get to know.
