Both founded in the 1850s, the America’s Cup and Louis Vuitton have sailed side by side for 130 years, living parallel lives and individually making waves in the world of luxury adventure. Coming together in 1983 for the Louis Vuitton Cup, the natural partnership has spent the past 40 years celebrating the craftsmanship, excitement, and elegance that exists at the intersection of their two worlds.
Representing the ideal of bringing tradition into a new, contemporary age, the two institutions merge heritage with innovation and precise performance. Year after year, Louis Vuitton brings a new audience to the America’s Cup with their special regalia, a face-off between the Defender of the competition and five Challengers. This year is no exception.
For the 37th America’s Cup Barcelona and the Louis Vuitton Cup, the atelier once more crafts their own trophy as well as two Trophy Trunks. The bespoke trunks will carry the Auld Mug — the classic trophy awarded to the winner of the America’s Cup since 1851, considered the oldest international sports trophy in the world – and the Louis Vuitton Cup. The latter is awarded after a steep competition, seeing Ineos Britannia, Alinghi Red Bull Racing, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, NYYC American Magic, and Orient Express Racing compete as the Challengers against last edition’s winner, Emirates Team New Zealand.
