WONDERLIST

Taylor’s Version of Speak Now, a new chapter of Del Water Gap, and Ray BLK’s sisterhood anthem: Wonderlist is here!

Taylor Swift — “Better Than Revenge (Taylor’s Version)”

Miss Swift has done it again. If you’re a Swiftie or have taken a recent scroll through Twitter — sorry, I mean Threads — you’d be aware of the discord surrounding a certain song on Speak Now. Leading up to the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), fans everywhere took their stances on whether she would re-record “Better Than Revenge” or not. If you remember, back in 2014, Taylor made a statement about certain lyrics from the track, explaining to The Guardian, “I was 18 when I wrote that. That’s the age you are when you think someone can actually take your boyfriend. Then you grow up and realize no one can take someone from you if they don’t want to leave.” Switching out the most controversial of the lyrics, “She’s better known for the things that does on the mattress”, Taylor sings “he was a moth to the flame/she was holding the matches” in her version. As the only track to get a rewrite for the re-record, “Better Than Revenge (Taylor’s Version)” has got quite a bit of attention. However, it’s not the only star of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version). Personally, I’ve been emotional all day listening to a grown up Taylor singing “Mean (Taylor’s Version)”, “Dear John (Taylor’s Version)”, “Never Grow Up (Taylor’s Version)”, and “Long Live (Taylor’s Version)”. I’ve also been preoccupied listening to the newly released “From the Vault” tracks, which feature Fall Out Boy and Hayley Williams. Mainly, I’ve been feeling super nostalgic, remembering waiting up to hear the original version of this album for the very first time back in 2010 — and super sentimental knowing that Taylor finally owns this monumental album, one she wrote entirely herself 13 years ago.

Nell Mescal — “Punchline”

Nell Mescal’s “Punchline” is here! Her fourth release, the song was written about a friendship heartbreak and is completely captivating. “It’s about trying to ‘win’ the friendship breakup by pretending it doesn’t hurt you that much, but still having that sick feeling you get in your stomach because you miss the other person,” she explains. With a personal narrative that fans everywhere will be able to relate to, she solidifies her relatable and infectious artistry as one to watch.
