How are you? What are you up to right now?
I’m doing well, thank you. Currently, I’m on my PLAY THIS AT MY FUNERALS TOUR and heading to Istanbul for the UEFA Champions League Final performance. It’s an exciting time as my recently released album, which I worked on intensely for three years, is out now. Big time for the Republic of Kadebostany!

When did you start writing and producing music?
I began exploring DJing and music production at the age of 14. At that time, I purchased my first drum machine and established my personal recording studio. My focus was on adopting the classic recording techniques prevalent in the 70s and 80s. Today, as the president of the Republic of Kadebostany, my main endeavor involves developing and promoting the culture and heritage of this fictional nation on a daily basis.

Your new album has a captivating and thought-provoking concept. How did you come up with the idea?
I noticed a lack of originality in funeral ceremonies and as a creative individual, I wanted the ability to design my own ceremony when the time comes. I hold a deep affection for these songs and want them to be played at my funerals. Additionally, writing eulogies for lost loved ones inspired me to write the ultimate love songs, which became the vision for the album.

Can you discuss the sound of this album? How would you define it?
I describe my music as “sophisticated music with mass appeal.” I enjoy blurring the boundaries between electronic and acoustic genres, creating something that combines the impact of electronic music with the emotional essence of acoustic classic folk songs.

What themes are present in the album, and what message do you hope to convey?
Through this album, I aim to capture the moment of truth and sincerity we often experience just before death. I drew inspiration from eulogies and the profound sentiments expressed to lost loved ones when it’s too late. I wanted to challenge the notion of waiting until death to express such emotions.

How did the lead single, “Like A Dream,” set the stage for Play This At My Funerals?
“Like A Dream” perfectly encapsulates the album. It’s a collaboration between myself, the trumpet player and Turkish singer, Baris Demirel, and the French singer, Angie Robba. The song embodies the sensation of crying with a smile, carrying a melancholic undertone fused with an uplifting instrumental that instills a sense of joy and appreciation for life.

How has it been to release such a deeply personal project?
It has been a relief for me! Living with these songs for so long, perfecting them, and waiting for their release has been a complex journey. However, I approached it with the mindset of simply navigating through the release and surviving the process.

Do you have a favourite track from the album?
My favorite track would have to be “Like A Dream.” Dance songs have always fascinated me, but I’ve also struggled with them in the past. “Like A Dream” represents the best integration of an uplifting atmosphere, melancholy, and a profound meaning that resonates with me.

Do you have a career highlight thus far?
While I believe the best is yet to come, if I had to choose one career highlight, it would be my Kadebostany tour in Mexico. Everything felt surreal, from the enthusiasm of the audience to the vibrant atmosphere of the country. It was a moment where I realized how much my music means to me.

What is next for you?
Next, I have a series of shows around the world, where I’ll be promoting the Republic of Kadebostany and sharing its unique culture.
