PREMIERE: MONSTER FLORENCE – “SPACEMAN”

The six piece unveil visuals for a standout cut from their terrifc new album.

As forward thinking as band’s come, Monster Florence have become a staple of the UK alternative music scene. The six piece come from diverse musical and personal backgrounds, mixing their individual ideas and approaches together seamlessly into a sound that pushes the boundaries of rap, merging a plethora of generic sensibilities – such as punk, indie and psych rock – together into a style that is unique to them and effortless in its appeal.

Last month, the group released their fourth album, Master System. The glorious, poignant and thought provoking body of work marvels across its 13 tracks, amalgamating the sound that they have constructed since their forming, pushing it further into the realms of intimacy and avant garde sonic and lyrical exploration.

Monster Florence have now blessed us with a video accompaniment for one of the stand out cuts from the new album, “Spaceman”. Visually reflecting the soaring, ethereal nature of the track, the video enhances the powerful sonics that sees each member bringing their best to the track, augmenting each other’s contributions on the gorgeous offering.

On the video, the band commented, “The concept was simple; dress up into our finest space attire and spend the day (metaphorically speaking) floating off into the cosmos. Some may ask “how would there be a drum kit in space” or “Why the hell is that guy playing the saxophone?“… My answer to that would be don’t overthink it…let the visuals take you on an expedition. Otherwise you’ll just ruin the magic.”

The video’s director, Scribbler, added, “The spaceman music video takes you on a journey through the void, with haunting apparitions of the band wearing 90’s era flight suits (a nod to the time period in which the song’s story takes place). The video’s hypnotic motion draws the viewer’s attention to the deeply personal narrative.”
