BURBERRY

The House unveils its 2023 Year of the Rabbit capsule collection.

Along with the new year, Burberry has ushered in a sparkling new capsule collection. Drawing from the Chinese Zodiac – which welcomes in the Year of the Rabbit – Burberry’s house codes are re-worked, and re-contextualised with a whole new flair. The rabbit motif is a thread that runs throughout a range of playful pieces, including ready-to-wear, childrenswear, and accessories.

While some pieces are structurally crafted to be rabbit-like, such as the fleece baseball cap, others are adorned with graphic illustrations. Nonetheless, there’s a freshness to this collection which could only be attributed to the heralding of a new start. Super versatile, its dazzling pieces display an impressive range.

Take the knitwear, which is elevated and evolved – classic crew-neck cardigans and intarsia sweaters feature the rabbit motif, while cutting stunning silhouettes. Other pieces, such as the outerwear, are next level. In terms of womenswear, the reversible padded jacket is the definition of duality. One side draws on Burberry’s iconic Thomas monogram, as well as the rabbit motif, while the other side is classic, featuring just the Burberry logo. Not to mention, the men’s outerwear oozes cool. Puffer, fleece, and varsity-style jackets are printed, appliqued, and embroidered with both the Thomas monogram, along with the rabbit motif.

Not stopping there, the accessories are simply head-turning. Cashmere scarves are brought to life with the classic Burberry check, which are further embellished with embroidered Rhamos monograms and rabbit ears. With Thomas-monogrammed eyewear to boot, there’s a little something for everyone. And if you know of any kids who want in on the fun, the childrenswear is just as chic. Matching hoodies, knitwear, and jackets all tie into the rest of the collection’s aesthetic.

The collection’s accompanying films carry the thread of its joie-de-vivre. In a triad of videos, lensed by director Zika Liu, each individual embarks on a journey – traversing through open spaces – leaving themselves ready to adopt fresh perspectives. Just like these pieces, the individuals are given the opportunity to revel in themselves, finding confidence and creativity.

The campaign stars actors Qi Xi, Shi Pengyuan and sportswoman Zhao Lina and is captured by video director Zika Liu and photographer Sky. In a triptych of films, each individual is on a journey through open spaces offering the chance for a new perspective: the opportunity to experience the extraordinary to find confidence, passion and creativity.
