PREMIERE: EVîN – “YARê”

The Berlin-based singer/producer unveils dazzling new music video for “Yarê” plucked from her latest EP “It Wasn’t Even For You.”

Hailing from Berlin, nascent artist Evîn is a colossal talent wrapped up in one experimental package. Influenced by artists like FKA Twigs, similarly enchanting croons emanate from her songs – imbuing the listener with a dream-like wonder. Melding together a multitude of genres, this hodgepodge concoction of sounds has produced a singular talent within the European music scene. With nods from the likes of Spotify, gracing their New Music Friday Germany and Equal GSA playlists, we’re just waiting on the rest of the world to catch up.

Inspired heavily by her Kurdish heritage, Evîn boldly reclaims her background in the face of Europe’s largely homogenous society. Defying pressures to conform, Evîn unabashedly explores themes of memory, culture, and belonging in her work as a means to both empower and heal herself.

“It Wasn’t Even For You” is her second EP, and the sheer musical fortitude displayed on the record proves herself as a valuable player in the music game. With ubiquitous, samey-sounding music perpetrating the radio waves, Evîn emerges as a respite from all of that. Over the course of the EP, visceral percussions play off of chopped, drawn out samples – all underpinned by palpitating synths. Acoustic instruments are juxtaposed by distinctly electronic flairs, and what results is an enchanting confrontation between Western and Eastern culture.

One track that particularly shines, however, is “Yarê”. Coupled with an equally transcendent music video – the track blew us away. Filmed in Istanbul, Evîn’s resonant lyrics about self-actualisation are driven home by the visuals’ captivating edge. Featuring her signature blend of the instrumental and the industrial, the track is a prime example of tried-and-true talent. Watch this space!
