GEORGE MICHAEL

Sony Music celebrate the icons industry shaking album, Older, with a deluxe, limited edition box set.

Arguably one of the most significant cultural icons of the music industry, the legacy of George Michael is maintained by the beating heart that pulsates through every body of work that he produced. Yet, when casting our minds back to the stratospheric ascendency of the late artist, it was his turning point in May 1996 that truly arrested his fans’ infinite adoration. Exploring territories unknown, Michael began to write his third studio album, Older, in a vein boasting fresh blood. As he ruminates on life, loss and pain whilst simultaneously writing his own narrative as an outwardly gay man, his soundscape departed from its dance-pop origins and became flavoured with jazz — an audial epitome of his growth within himself and his artistry.

“I think I composed the best, most healing piece of music that I’ve written in my life with this album … Older is my greatest moment” stated George when the 11-track effort was first unveiled. And now, two decades later, it is the raw reflections of his most turbulent period that bind us close to the artist six years after his tragic passing. Producing six singles including “Fastlove” and “Jesus to a Child”, Older will forever mark the pinnacle of everything we know of George Michael and his industry-shaking approach to tune-crafting.

And so, when Sony Music came to celebrate the life and legacy of George Michael, it is no surprise the label took to the globally-acclaimed album, today unveiling the deluxe, limited edition box set. A treasure trove of Michael’s quintessential work, this set includes the newly mastered and original tapes — pressed on 180gsm vinyl across 2LPs for superior audio quality along with a wide array of artwork. Packaged with a double slipcase, 5 CDs, 3 LPs and a 48-page book, The Story of Older, the set is available to purchase now by clicking here
