“It started very nasally, like your classic monster voice. Then I slowly realised that it was about opening up and relaxing the larynx and using the diaphragm. When you think about portraying these dark thoughts and the truth as it were, for me, often when I’m really centred in telling the truth I’m much lower. It’s not chaotic. I’m not scrabbling for the idea or plucking it out of nowhere, it’s internal and therefore it falls out.”
