Shedding a light that is not so black-and-white on the glorified life of Marilyn Monroe, the official trailer for Blonde has blown every expectation out of the water — an attitude which forms the very DNA of the features plot line. Taking us behind the flashing cameras of adoring fans and blood-thirsty press, Blonde postulates the identity the star had to sacrifice in order to become Marilyn Monroe on-screen — an act that led to her tragic demise.

With every scene in Blonde inspired by a real-life image of Marilyn Monroe, the Andrew Dominik-directed film acts as a poignant love letter to the late icon — whose overly sexualised image has remained at the forefront of modern-day discourse for over six decades. As Ana De Armas straps into the peroxide pin-curls of Marilyn, the trailer slowly digs into her most private and troubling reflections — allowing audiences to follow Marilyn in a way that changes glamour into authenticity, and fame into misfortune.

In a similar vein to that of Judy, Blonde comes at a time of disillusionment, showcasing the humanised back stories of the often unreachable emblems of the past. Lauding Marilyn for her soul and her struggles, Blonde could quite possibly be the film we need to adjust out perspectives and align with ourselves. Premiering on Netflix on September 28th, we will be armed and ready with some diamonds and plenty of tissues.
