DUNE: PART TWO

Here is everything we know so far about the second edition of Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated sci-fi film.

Since Dune took our screens by storm last October, we have spent the last year impatiently waiting for Timothée Chalamet and his baby-blue-eyed cast members to take us straight back to Arrakis. Thankfully, however, it would appear our anticipation is being put somewhat at ease, with some ominous images revealing that the filming of the sequel has officially begun.

Rumoured to be even more intense and action-packed than the first, die-hard fans of Herbert’s novel were quick to notice that Dune only covered two-thirds of the book’s material — meaning there’s plenty of action left to come.

And while we still have to wait another painful year to see some epic showdowns and Zendaya’s ascendency within the feature, we couldn’t help but do a bit of detective work ourselves to uncover as many details as we possibly could to feed our inner sci-fi fanatic until the first trailer drops.

So to learn everything we know so far about Dune: Part 2, read below now…

The cast is second to none

It is no secret that our affinity for Timothee Chalamet is as strong as his jawline. And, back doing what he does best, Chalamet will be reprising his role as the protagonist Paul Atreides — but this time around he will be joined by an array of today’s biggest names…

In official reports, it was announced that Florence Pugh and Austin Butler will be furthering the star-studded cast. With Pugh reportedly being courted to portray the role of Princess Irulan and Butler to play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, it’s safe to say we cannot contain our excitement to see them add some fresh-faced flair. And though Pugh and Chalamet might not be warming hearts quite like they did in Little Women, we can’t wait to see them reunite in a sci-fi.

Zendaya is back, and with more screen-time too…

Despite only seeing her on screen for seven minutes in the first feature, viewers have been assured that Zendaya will have a much more prominent role in the sequel. Here’s hoping that director Denis Villeneuve doesn’t stray too far from Herbert’s material, because this would show her develop into the story’s romantic lead. We have our fingers crossed!

The plot thickens…

As the first film ends with Paul joining the Fremen with the goal of bringing peace to Arrakis, we should be set to witness Paul’s rise to power. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the universe, Paul’s storyline will show him fighting to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

We can officially say that filming is well and truly underway…

While filming for Dune: Part 2 was meant to begin on the 18th of July, with the film set to hit the big screen on the 20th of October 2023, filming was delayed considering the huge scale of the project. Not to worry though, because we can confirm that production is in process. While we may have been let in on what we can expect from the highly anticipated blockbuster, our excitement and anticipation has by no means settled down.

Giving us more than enough time to make sure we pre-book those cinema tickets, Dune: Part 2 is due to hit theatres on the 17th of November 2023…
