I know that many of you won’t want to start off your Wednesday by casting your minds back to the first lockdown, but hear us out. Many a show came to our aid during those isolated times in the name of keeping us entertained and, let’s face it, sane. And, no show did a better job than Salley Rooney’s Normal People. Catapulting Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal to the main stage, we were treated to a tortured and seriously steamy love story that has transcended the boundaries of the pandemic to situate itself as a truly iconic release. And while the release of Normal People may feel as though it was a lifetime ago, to the delight of many Sally Rooney is officially making her return.

With her debut novel, Conversations With Friends, headed towards a hotly-anticipated release Hulu and BBC this May, fans of Rooney’s last book adaptation have been waiting on tenterhooks for the first official look at what is sure to be our next on-screen obsession, until now. With the show’s official trailer having just dropped, we have been assured that the new show will bring with it as much lust, love and emotional turmoil as Normal People, through a fresh perspective. Alison Oliver takes the lead in the trailer as she introduces us to Frances, a young woman who, together with best friend Bobbi, enters an intricate situationship with a married couple. Sure to have the tears free-flowing and emotions bubbling at the surface, the steam and intense romantic connection are in abundance as the trailer promises a show sure to captivate our hearts and minds.

An entanglement worthy of the name, Conversations With Friends is shaping up to be an ode to the raw, intimate and messy nature of falling through human relationships and an exploration of sexuality, and we cannot wait to watch.
