CHANEL CRUISE 2021/2022

The house looks to a punk-inspired colour palette and Gabrielle Chanel’s dear friend director, Jean Cocteau, to inform its Dubai-bound show.

London, Milan and Paris all have one thing in common, they are considered fashion capitals of the world. But, with innovation and reinvention on the mind, Chanel has looked to add another destination to that list as it takes to the sandy shores of Dubai to unveil its Crusie 2021/22 collection.

Picking the opulent setting of Dubai Creek Harbour district as the show’s backdrop, Virginie Viard looked to pay homage to Jean Cocteau’s fantastical Testament of Orpheus for the new collection. With Jean standing as a close personal friend of Gabrielle Chanel herself, the collection is a bold embodiment of the classic Chanel aesthetic, as tweed cuts made their presence known and an essence of Parisian sophistication laced each piece. But, ensuring that the blended references of the famed 60s film reared their heads, onlookers were treated to a collection filled with sleek yet striking silhouettes and celestial patterns. And, of course, with this year having been officially branded as that of the punk rock comeback, it was only fair that Chanel turned to the monochromatic colour palette associated with the grungy aesthetic to fill out its latest display.

To round off the first-of-its-kind show, the likes of Penélope Cruz, Caroline de Maigret and Soo Joo Park – aka some of the brand’s most celebrated ambassadors – graced the front row to bask in the sophisticated new collection, the affair became all the more grand.
