Mugler is a brand synonymous with glamour. Its now-infamous sheer panelled bodysuits have been filling our timelines for as long as we can remember and have been the attire of choice for pop stars and celebrities alike. And now, the iconic fashion house has returned with another dazzling display this week with the unveiling of its Spring/Summer 2021 virtual show – equal parts rollicking cast (boundary-pushing names in activism, fashion & culture) and incredible cart-wheeling illusory experiences.

The display opens up with the imagery of creative director Casey Cadwallader flinging our girl Bella Hadid across the catwalk and this sets the tone for this truly unique show. Filmed in reverse, the video offers the likes of Hunter Schafer, Dominique Jackson, Soo Joo Park and Irina Shayk strutting (and tumbling) down the runway. Mugler’s historical focus on the sheer magnitude of female power is evident here as we see elegantly choreographed acrobatics chosen to replace the usual model strut.

While the stunts that fill the video are an exciting development in the world of virtual fashion, we cannot forget to mention the beautiful designs that fill this collection. True to Mugler’s style, we see body-caressing mesh bodysuits providing a celebration of the female form and contrasting sleek and sharp tailored jackets. Asymmetrics feature as an element in the designs along with denim offerings and a stunning array of uber-sexy skin-baring cut-out dresses. A standout from the show is a naked dress worn by Hunter Schafer, with the crystal-encrusted piece shimmering and shining as it is displayed against the dark and moody tones of the runway.

With the brand embracing the see-now-buy-now concept for its latest show, these truly exquisite pieces are all the inspiration we needed to get excited about fashion and the possibility of wearing it again.
