Grace Jones illuminated under a stark studio light. A young boy breaking a horse by the waters of the ocean. An army of majestic nude women traversing a field of long grass. From street photography, to striking portraiture, abstract paintings and gloomy landscape shots, Don’t Back Down! is the new photography initiative looking to raise funds for Black Lives Matter.

The newly launched artistic initiative has collaborated with over 40 far-flung artists and photographers to sell prints and raise money for three US charities: Equal Justice Initiative, Inner-City Arts and The Okra Project. Each print will be made at Contact Photo Labs, a black-owned printing company based in LA specialising in fine art prints. The iconic photo collection tells a historical narrative of culture, style and beauty that permeates various communities in America. Expect photographs from boundary-pushing lensers Danielle Levitt, Jamel Shabazz and Mason Poole, just to name a few.

Although each print is limited edition, Don’t Back Down! plans to continue finding new photographers and charities to donate to throughout the course of the year. This initiative, along with the growing list of art fundraisers, showcases the effect of any artistic practice being a medium for change and the power that creatives have to induce change as a collective force.
