As if we needed to add yet another layer to our already obsessive fandom, Normal People’s Paul Mescal is the latest to star in Instagram book club Between Two Books reading extracts from Sally Rooney’s iconic novel. The Summer 2020 cover star opens the clip with him introducing himself, before providing us with some sweet, sweet audio relief.

Everyone is watching her now.” Mescal reads. “She has been speaking, but she stopped to stare at him. ‘Jesus Christ,’ she says, ‘Connell Waldron, from beyond the grave.’ He coughs, and in a panic to appear normal, says, ‘When did you take up smoking?’ To Gareth, to her friends, she adds, ‘We went to school together’.”
