As Pride celebrations come to an end, some much needed attention has been drawn to the marginalised experiences of the black queer community. Here to shed light on this issue, My Black Queerness, My Queer Blackness (MBQMQB) is a digital project created to explore the black queer identity and beauty by way of art, literature and film.

It’s a space where trans and non binary people of colour are elevated through creativity and are recognised for their contribution to society, despite often being alienated.

MBQMQB includes a fundraising print sale featuring the works of 12 photographers like Kennedi Carter, Campbell Addy, Tim Walker and Michael Bailey.

Each image is available in a limited edition of 20 copies, and 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to two trans charities, TransWaveJA and ForTheGworls.

They have also packed in three film screenings by the late Marlon Riggs which delivers a valuable insight to the history of the black queer experience. Riggs was a prolific American filmmaker and gay rights activist known for producing socially provocative films.

The final piece of MBQMQB’s creative offering is a digital journal showcasing the stories of trans men and women of colour from around the world, photographed and interviewed remotely by Damien Frost.
