Our quarantine would not have been the same if it wasn’t the bizarre world of Joe Exotic – which swiftly went viral on social media (think IG filters, conspiracy theories and memes galore). Not to mention the endless threads of potential future casting speculation which has also inundated our TLs (will it be Woody Harrelson? Matthew McConaughey?). But now, a victor has arisen.

Nicolas Cage is set to star as eccentric gun-toting zoo owner Joe Exotic, made famous by the hit Netflix documentary Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness. The new mini-series will be based on a Texas Monthly article titled Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild, by editor Leif Reigstad. Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon has also been attached to the new series and is rumoured to be playing his arch-nemesis, Carole Baskin.

The eight-episode series is to be produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios, and will see Cage as executive producer.
