TAYLOR SWIFT – “THE MAN”

The singer is unrecognisable as she transforms into a man to tackle sexist stereotypes in her new music video.

It’s finally here. Taylor Swift has dropped her highly-anticipated music video for her anthemic track “The Man”, and as expected, it features a buzzy cameo – but it’s not what you think.

The music video marks the first ever directed by the singer, with Swift also featuring in the star role, in full-on prosthetics, no less (check the new hair line and facial hair).

The video opens with the man version of Swift gazing powerfully out of a high-rise office, later imposing on everyone on public transport by manspreading and smoking his cigar. He berates employees on a yacht laden with bikini-clad women; does the bare minimum to receive the title of “Dad of the Year”; and has a massive strop after losing a tennis match.

He later goes to receive pointers from actual Swift, who gives reductive pointers from her director’s chair (the gender roles clearly reversed) with “could you try to be sexier?” and “maybe more likeable this time” – obviously stinging remarks that Swift has at some point received in her career. The singer is clear to highlight her insistence of the easier ride a man will get in his life, and the sexist stereotypes at play in society and work.

We stan so hard.
