One Directioner and forever dream boy Harry Styles has been at the centre of more than one casting rumour recently, after his impressive turn in 2017’s Dunkirk.

He may have been beaten by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘s Austin Butler to the role of Elvis in an upcoming biopic, but Styles was seemingly a strong contender to play Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action remake of childhood favourite The Little Mermaid. But One Direction stans will sadly have to part with this dream, as it’s been confirmed that the singer has “respectfully declined” the role.

Now that Styles is out of the picture, it’s anyone’s guess who will be playing the prince opposite 19-year-old Halle Bailey’s Ariel. Other rumoured cast members include Melissa McCarthy as the villainous Ursula and Awkwafina as Ariel’s seagull BFF Scuttle. All that’s left to do now is wait with baited breath for the trailer (and getting the tissues ready for when that time comes).
