STORMZY WORE BANKSY AT GLASTO

To open his history-making headline set, Stormzy made a political statement with a Banksy-designed stab-proof vest.

If you hadn’t heard, on Friday night Stormzy made history: at just 25-years-old, he became the second youngest person ever to headline Glastonbury (following Bowie, aged 24), as well as the first black British solo artist to headline the festival in its entire 49-year run.

In front of the largest festival crowd in the world and with millions more viewing at home, there couldn’t have been a better moment to make a clear visual political statement – and he called on none other than Banksy to do just that, opening his powerful, highly-charged set wearing a stab-proof vest customised by the artist with a Union Jack flag.

“Last night I headlined Glastonbury in a stab-proof vest custom made by the greatest, most iconic living artist on planet earth, the one and only BANKSY”, Stormzy said in an appreciation post on Instagram yesterday. Banksy quickly confirmed: “I made a customised stab-proof vest and thought – who could possibly wear this? Stormzy at Glastonbury.”
