WONDERLIST

All the songs we’ve had on rotation this week.

The Jonas Brothers – “Strangers” (and the whole album…)

In case you’ve been living on another planet, all our teenage dreams have been answered: The Jonas Brothers are officially back.

Today the band followed up their comeback singles “Sucker” and “Cool” with a 14-track album, Happiness Begins. Packed with pop-rock bangers about love, life and just having a good time, it’s impossible to highlight just one – so listen to the whole thing on repeat all weekend and thank us later.

Pre-order our interview with the all-grown-up Jo Bros here to find out all the tea on their Disney-launched journey so far, getting back together and and what the future holds.

Foals – “Sunday”

Find us someone who says Foals’ fifth studio album Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1 isn’t one of the best records of 2019 so far, and we’ll show you a liar.

This week, the band released a psychedelic new video for the track “Sunday”, featuring live performance footage overlayed with cloudy sunset skies, neon underwater scenes, burnt orange cityscapes, fireworks, lasers and more…

Catch the band on their June UK headline tour, which kicks off next week in Manchester.

Skepta – “No Sleep” | A COLOURS SHOW

Berlin-based, live performance YouTube series A COLOURS SHOW has earned a reputation for featuring all the most exciting international artists – and if you ask us, Skepta’s video has been a long time coming.

Following the release of his latest album Ignorance Is Bliss last week, the platform finally dropped a session with the rapper performing new track “no sleep” yesterday. Drenched in infra-red lighting reflective of the record’s artwork, Skepta proved again that whatever he puts out is always, always worth the wait.

BTS – “Dream Glow” (Feat. Charli XCX)

BTS and Charli XCX? Excuse us whilst we cry tears of joy.

This week, the band linked up with the queen of pop for “Dream Glow”. With reverberating synths and blended harmonies, it sounds as dizzying and dreamy as the song title suggests. Having performed at London’s Wembley Arena a few days ago, the K-pop stars will be leaving Europe after their France show tomorrow to complete the rest of their Love Yourself : Speak Yourself world tour in Japan.

Whilst we patiently wait for the arrival of some new dance moves to learn when the video drops, see you in France?

Muna – “Number One Fan”

LA-based trio Muna returned this week with the pop-rock track “Number One Fan”, the first taste of their highly anticipated second album Saves The World – due to drop in September.

No strangers to stan culture ourselves (cc. the Jonas Brothers), the upbeat offering feels like Katie Gavin (lead vocals/production), Naomi McPherson (production/guitar/synths/vocals), and Josette Maskin (lead guitar/vocals) have answered all our wishes for a soundtrack to a summer spent following our favourite bands around the UK. But more importantly, as the band highlights, it’s a song about stanning yourself.

“It’s a song about recognizing the negative voices in your head and learning to speak back to them”, Muna explains. “It’s a joyful and surprising experience to recognise that, just as we can all be our own biggest haters, we can also decide to be our own biggest fans. We can choose to believe in ourselves, to take notice of all the little admirable things we do, to applaud every inch of progress and comfort ourselves through every pitfall. It’s an incredibly liberating process, learning to love ourselves this way.”

B Young – “Gucci Demon”

Remember when everyone still couldn’t stop singing B Young’s “Jumanji” last summer?

Hailing from Hackney, the British-Cypriot rapper and singer has spent the past year dropping equally catchy tracks. His latest offering “Gucci Demon” dropped yesterday, along with a cinematic video depicting a Bonnie and Clyde story in an opulent hotel, featuring model Danah Leya star in the accompanying, cinematic visuals for ‘Gucci Demon’.

Grab tickets to see the B Young experience live this month at Strawberries and Creem and 0212 Fest Birmingham, and pre-order our interview with him in our summer issue now.

Chanel Tres – “Sexy Black Timberlake”

Fresh off the back of playing Primavera, Compton-born artist Chanel Tres just dropped “Sexy Black Timberlake” – exploring his experiences of feeling objectified for his skin colour.

Lifted from his forthcoming EP “Black Moses”, the funk-led track’s lined Tres up as one of the artists primed to soundtrack summer 2019. Catch him live at Field Day tomorrow, and on tour over the next few months all over the world.
