PLAYLIST: KIWI

The London-based emerging DJ + producer curates a playlist of his top bangers.

London-based DJ Alex Warren
London-based DJ Alex Warren

In-house photographer. One-man promotions company. Club booking manager. A long-enduring passion for music means that London-based DJ, Alex “Kiwi” Warren, has dabbled in just about everything – including curating popular club nights called Orlando Boom and Kate Boss (love it).

But it’s only when he started creating his own tracks – a heady and varied blend of balearic beat, disco, house and Detroit techno – that he started hitting his stride. As well as remixing for high-profile artists such as The Klaxons, and gaining support from the likes of Annie Mac, Andrew Weatherall and Daniel Avery – he’s toured all over the world, while holding down his residency at London’s XOYO.

We caught up with Kiwi, who’s curated us a playlist of his biggest tracks right now…

Wolfram – “Thing Called Love ft. Haddaway (Legowelt Special Remix Dub)”

I actually somehow missed this when it first got released; I found it a couple of years ago. It’s the perfect indie pop record for me: delicate, clever and just the right level of fun.

Jamie 3:26 – “Whole Lotta Love (Back To The Box Edit)”

Italo Led Zeppelin tribute? Count me in. Absolute weapon in the club. Always kicks things off; I’ve been playing it for some time now and I don’t plan to stop.

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s – “Skeletons”

My girlfriend Abi reminded me of how epic this track was one day in the car. It’s full nostalgia for me, and I’m throwing it in for her and all the Panic/Resurrection crew. Shout out!

Kiwi – “Condor (Rex The Dog remix)”

Rex on remix duties with a track from my last EP. I love so much what he’s done with the original, a proper trance workout.

Minnie Riperton – “Inside My Love”

A love song to end all love songs, this song is a potion and will warm even the coldest of hearts. Use sparingly.

Umo Vogue – “Just My Love”

Italo monster, tons of grit and crunch but with delicate love-laden vocals.

The Bees – “Never Give Up”

Energetic floor-filler. It’s been a bit of a secret weapon for me for a few years, but I’ve heard a couple of other people play it recently so time for it to fly the nest! See if you catch the bit Black Box’s “Ride On Time” pinched.

Kate Bush – “Wuthering Heights”

There’s no words that can be said for my relationship to this song over the years! Most recently, my best friend Tanya put it on at her house on NYE at about 3am, and it really just transported us all to another planet. I’ve been playing it in clubs since then.
