Activist and photographer might not be additional credits you’d expect to see on a model’s portfolio, but Emma Breschi is making waves in the industry precisely for this reason.
The first curve model to be scouted into the Vivienne Westwood army, the straight-talking beauty has been vocal about promoting body positivity, posting self-assured nude portraits of herself on Instagram. And her film and photography work? Female identity, body image and womanhood are just some of the themes approached.
Oh, and her trajectory has been anything but straight-forward. Born in Switzerland to Filipino and Italian parents, Breschi grew up in Thailand, making for one well-travelled model.
We sat down with the 25-year-old and talked career highlights…

How did you get scouted?
Two years ago, I was scouted on Instagram for a Carhartt campaign. Never in a million years did I think I’d be modelling, but after that I was signed to Models 1 and it’s been a wild ride ever since.
Favourite modelling moment?
The day I ate cake with Juergen Teller.
Describe your style…
I play with a lot of colours and characters. It really depends on how I feel that day! I fluctuate from looking like a stripper to a sun-kissed dad in a Hawaiian shirt.
Is there anything you try and get across with your work?
I don’t believe that I am intentionally trying to promote anything for the sake of doing so. I’m a very honest and open person; so naturally I’m quite outspoken with my personal views on things. I have a very strong willingness when it comes to learning about new things; and that allows me to be passionate about various social constructs. I explore all things of high importance in this thing called life; from feminism, to the environment and body positivity. So whatever you wanna discuss, I’m ready to have a conversation about it.

If you could have anything you’ve ever worn on a shoot, what would it be?
Forever and always, Vivienne Westwood Couture. Her corsets do wonders to my cleavage.
What’s the best party you’ve ever been to?
My mate Holly’s (aka. singer Lapsley’s) 21st birthday up north in Southport. Open bar, celebrating legality and good times with ya gal! Shit’s lit innit!
What do you do when you’re not modelling?
You can guarantee I’ll be out walking my dog LeBron in some of London’s most nature-esque spots, or trying to book a weekend away surfing.

Who would be your dream to work with?
Mate, I’ve been so blessed to have worked with many of my heroes already on several occasions. I’m just grateful for all the amazing people I’ve had the honour and pleasure of meeting.
What’s been your modelling highlight so far?
I once got to swim with sharks on a shoot – that was fucking epic!
What’s your dream in terms of your modelling career?
Honestly? I am currently living a dream. I still sometimes can’t believe where I am today in my career. The truth is, I never once thought I’d be a model. If you had told me two years ago that I’d be eating cake with Juergen Teller, falling in love with Vivienne Westwood, on the covers of magazines, jet-setting to New York, living independently in London, paying my taxes and supporting women around the world, I would have never believed a word! I had absolutely no expectations when it all started, literally no idea where it was going to take me. I just know that I am grateful for it all and I’m excited for whatever comes forth.
