7 WONDERS: NYFW FROW FAVES

A round up of the best pairs from AW18’s front row.

Ah, another New York Fashion Week under the belt (the belt is Gucci, obvs). Despite the snow, this season’s showcases were ablaze with cool design and even better celebs, the latter at the forefront of their respective industries, all out to see the season’s best new fashions.

Personally – or collectively – we were obsessed with Marc Jacobs’ q major oversized coats and scarves, Calvin Klein‘s popcorn perfect set (and Raf’s re-interpretation of the high res jacket), and Coach’s gorgeous printed dresses.

Beyond the catwalk, the real AW18 standout were the front row pairings. A rare opportunity to witness two totally juxtaposed individuals come together and share 10 minutes of fashion-induced awkwardness. From Cardi B and Anna Wintour to Millie Bobbie Brown and A$AP Rocky, below we take a look at the best FROW duos of the season so far.

Cardi B & Anna Wintour

They’re pretty much worlds apart, but fashion forced them together at the Alexander Wang show, where the Vogue editor sat cross-armed besides the v mega dancer-turned-rapper. “Anna Wintour is about that life,” captioned Cardi B on an Instagram post, sharing the iconic moment.

Together they witnessed Wang’s sporty AW18 offering, which included panelled formal-wear, tracksuits with heels, and lots of leather, as shown on a selection of our fave models – amongst them Natalie Westling and Kaia Gerber. We’re going to hazard a guess and say we don’t think we’ll be seeing the “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker on the cover of US Vogue anytime soon – but who knows. Watch this space!

Millie Bobby Brown & A$AP Rocky

Probably our fave twosome of NYFW, we were just as buzzed as Millie Bobby Brown that she and A$AP Rocky were sat beside one another at the Calvin Klein show. The star of Stranger Things, who is regularly seen donning the designs of Raf Simons’ CK, posted a video of herself and Rocky on her ‘gram, candidly filmed so he only notices at the last minute. This isn’t the first time the 13-year-old has made a friend of a mega-star rapper, she already counts Drake as one of her besties and he regularly crops up in pics on her social media.

Raf Simons & Lil Kim

Put ya lighters up for these two. Calvin Klein’s creative director and the Dior alumni sat down with the baddest bitch in the game, Lil Kim, to enjoy the the Marc Jacobs show. Joining one another on the front row alongside an array of other A-listers, Lil Kim showcased her new green ‘do and lived up to her ice queen persona in an all-white ensemble (with matching headpiece). Simons meanwhile kept it low-key in a leather jacket, jeans and trainers.

Away from these two, the Marc Jacobs show had talent off and on the runway, with the likes of Natalie Westling, Dilone, Winnie Harlow and Alek Wek modelling Jacobs’ bold new AW18 collection. The standout pieces from the show included the teal leather trench (a look on Wek), the statement block/panel coloured suiting with statement, boxy shoulders and exaggerated cuts, and the oversized coats and knits, which look like the perfect attire for NY’s frosty weather. It’s fair to say that Marc Jacobs closed NYFW with a B-A-N-G!

Sasha Lane & Tommy Dorfman

Best of the next when it comes to stage and screen, Tommy Dorfman joined former Wonderbabe Sasha Lane for the Coach 1941 show earlier this week. Both fashion darlings in their own right (Dorfman recently designed a collection for ASOS while Lane has fronted a Vuitton campaign), the twosome were just a few of the big name spectators to soak up Coach’s AW18 creations. Other guests included Coach campaign girl Selena Gomez, who sat alongside actor and photographer Petra Collins. For his new offering, Stuart Vever’s presented a bohemian edge, with shearling-lined jackets, ankle length dresses and floral and paisley aplenty.

You can see more Coach, worn by Troye Sivan, in our upcoming Spring 18 Issue.

Kehlani & Caleb McLaughlin

After confessing that he didn’t think he’d be recognised at New York Fashion Week, Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin clearly couldn’t have been more wrong. It seems he’s found a firm friend in his FROW companion, singer-songwriter Kehlani, who he sat beside at this season’s 3.1 Phillip Lim showcase. For the AW18 collection, the American designer decided to work with bold colours and prints with a mixture of diverse fabrics.

Laverne Cox & Whoopi Goldberg

A pair of absolute icons, our two acting faves Whoopi Goldberg and Laverne Cox seemed like just a coupla old besties, when they were sat together at the Christian Siriano show. Floor length fur coats, embellished evening wear and metallic suiting were just a few of the stand-outs on offer throughout the presentation of the designer’s AW18 collection.

It was also Danielle Brooks’ (who stars alongside Cox on Netflix’s Orange is The New Black) debut runway performance, and she was just as sassy as her onscreen character Taystee. Obvs, we’re obsessed.

Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman & Laura Dern

Name a more iconic trio… Oscar-nominees Margot Robbie and Laura Dern joined Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman on the FROW at Calvin Klein, the same show that brought together Millie Bobby Brown and A$AP Rocky (spoiling us Raf, spoiling us).

The powerhouse trio enjoyed a near-perfect presentation from the Creative Director, who continued to break the CK mould with a series of less-conventional styles, infusing wild prints with bold cuts and silhouettes in both men’s and womenswear. Undeniably one of the most buzzed about shows on the New York schedule, casting included Lulu Tenney, Freja Beha Erichsen, Kaia Gerber and Lineisy Montero.
