PFW: MIU MIU SS18

This season Miuccia invites us to the dinner table, sort of.

Tantalising Tablecloth
Great news! Miuccia Prada has found beauty in the previously considered odious fabric that has adorned the tables of many a misguided place setter over the years, so to get next season’s look all you have to do is nick some linen from your local greasy spoon. By pairing the dated check and floral patterns of these bygone breakfast splatter shields with worn leathers and sheer slip dresses, Prada gave the unassuming fabrics a new lease of life. Repurposing kitsch from the kitchen, the collection was a showcase of luxury with humble beginnings, something that’s a rare sight on Parisian runways.

Neon Retro
How to lift the drab tones of the aforementioned tablecloths? Neon accents, of course. Seen in ruffled blouses and knee-high sports socks, glimpses of luminescent hues brought the muted colour palette of the rest of collection into the 21st century. Creating colour combinations that clashed and complimented one another in equal measure, the kick of neon in the collection afforded relief from the overwhelmingly retro theme of the collection, a subtle nod to the contemporary that brought its 50s vibe back to the future.

Back to Basics
It’s time to eschew the saucy lingerie and replace it with a basic ribbed vest from your school days. The underwear of choice for the models that sashayed down the Miu Miu runway, these standard wardrobe staples served as an unexpected peek-a-boo under oversized lace tops of the same cut and sheer blouses, a styling tip for spring we should all keep in mind.
