LFW: MARQUES’ALMEIDA SS18

The Portuguese pair wow to a soundtrack of Dolly Parton, Sleigh Bells and The Kills.

Shapely Proposal

Call it armour or call it abstract – both, for all intents and purposes, offer a realistic indication of what Marques’Almeida delivered on Monday afternoon: skirts with asymmetric hemlines, metallic corsets the shape of cow hides and dresses that almost fell from the body. A state of dressing almost routine for the Portuguese pair, for SS18 silhouettes – wonderfully presented in full view of the sun under a bridge in Shoreditch – felt refreshed, the possibilities explored further.

Soundtrack of Dreams

What’s not to love (or feel highly emotional) about a show that begins with Devotchka’s “The Winner Is”, a.k.a. Little Miss Sunshine’s divine aural treat? Followed by Dolly Parton, Sleigh Bells and The Kills, what Jonjo Jury curated for Paulo and Marta’s presentation was a mood that filled one with unadulterated joy.

Stripe Tease

Not wholly unfamiliar to the M’A family, for SS18 stripes are set to hold court like never before. In red and white/black and white displays, this season they were seen attacking boots, making up full looks, twisted alongside block shades of black and shining through in the form of skirts, loose, nipple revealing shirts, floor length dresses and everything else, give or take, under the sun. You know what to do.
