NYFW: TOM FORD SS18

The designer kicks off the season with a sharp 90s focus.

Celebs Galore

Anyone who’s anyone was at Tom Ford’s Wednesday night show. From Kim K to Julianne Moore, the designer gathered all of his Hollywood pals for his return to New York Fashion Week. To the tune of David Bowie’s “Fame”, modelling stars lit up the night: Binx Walton kicked off the show in a gold look and pink stilettos while rocking a dusty rose gown was Gigi Hadid. Right behind her, Kendall Jenner walked in a sort of sheer sensual black dress.

Nocturnal Animals

Guests were in for a hot surprise as the Texan designer-turned-filmmaker, in proper Tom Ford fashion, made legs a hero look; following a series of casual wear pieces, the party likewise heated up with revealing plunge necklines and high cut bodysuits. Bold colours stood out under the dim lights – orange leather trenches, fuschia pink heels, brilliant silver – and in celebration of Ford’s new Fucking Fabulous fragrance, an army of hot male waiters catered the after-party. Here Virgil Abloh took to the decks, while dudes in short shorts served champagne: Tom Ford’s comeback was doubtless a night to remember.

The Suits

After the first Gucci resurrection and then launching his eponymous label, Tom Ford is best known for designing killer suits. Here, he created the same emblematic suit, but tailored to fit a woman’s body: for SS18 women’s jackets feature 90s inspired broad shoulders and peak lapels. Available in a variety of materials – from satin to denim – and colours, our favourite is the fabulous pink velvet suit (not exactly Gwyneth Paltrow on the red carpet circa 1996 but seriously divine).
