Premiere: Alaena – "Wasteland"

Pop art inspired visuals from the metal-turned-pop star smashing the mould.

Alaena continues her trajectory into pop stardom with her latest track “Wasteland” (and a debut solo EP not far behind). A far cry from her Wings of Plague days, the Pittsburgh native here swaps death core screams for angelic harmonies in a sonic reflection of her departure from the band and arrival in pop-mecca, LA. With some help from seasoned hitmaker Khris Lorenz, her latest single is a catchy break-up anthem which mixes a 90s Britney-esque vocal with Lorenz’s trademark dance beat.

In the video, below – which also marks her directorial debut – Alaena ditches the black for a pop art palette but maintains her rock edge as she fiercely laments her destructive relationship. The grunge-cum-pop princess descends into insanity against a backdrop of shattered glass and roses, here metaphorical of her evolved sound. Tipped to be a huge success this year, “Wasteland” has already hit summery playlists on the likes of Apple Music, Spotify and Soundcloud.
