MUJI’S SMART POCKET

Exploring Muji’s new millennial appropriate denim.

Labelled a classic since way back when, the five pocket jean has been having a moment for well over a century while the vogue for denim – developed prior to pay phones, house phones and mobile telephones – continues to gain strength, one street style shot at a time. Combining the lot with its latest release, Muji this season introduces a millennial appropriate, sixth pocket.

Designed to avoid any interference traditionally associated with walking and sitting with your smartphone in your back pocket, something we’re no doubt each guilty of, the capsule collection boasts both men’s and women’s styles and has been produced in organic cotton; Indigo and Navy are amongst the four colourways available today. Here, Andrew Magurran, Tashoma Vilini and Emily Whitmore explore what the Japanese brand’s marriage of form and function – a core belief from Muji HQ – means today, in the context of being tech friendly.
