Past and Present

Having thought about her heritage in the context of a changing landscape, Victoria Beckham mixed familiar shapes with fresh ideas in her AW17 Ready To Wear Collection. There was classic menswear tailoring in oversized fabrics such as tartan and houndstooth check, juxtaposed with contemporary fluid chiffon. The collection balanced rigidity and structure with femininity, creating a lineup that every woman will want.

Gentleman’s Club

Inspired by a Paul Nash exhibition at the Tate Britain, the colour scheme was influenced by gentleman’s club colours. Drawing from Nash, Victoria used Oxblood, navy and black, as well as powder blue and lipstick red. There was also glimpses of graphic patterns which really made the collection pop.

Proposal vs. Wardrobe

As Victoria said: “This is not an actual wardrobe, but a wardrobe of proposals.” Instead of conveying an outfit look, Victoria wants these items to convey an attitude. The women who wear these clothes should feel powerful, strong and confident, oozing elegance and individuality. And as one of the founding members of a group who taught women everywhere to be fearless and free, we can trust that Victoria knows exactly what she’s talking about.
