LFW: Daks AW17

DAKS marries androgyny and femininity for AW17.

Femininity & Fluidity

At the heart of DAK’s AW17 collection is an exclusive ‘DAKS Club Flannel’, created in collaboration with Fox Brothers. The pinstripe design takes note from characteristic British city style, and appears alongside herringbone, Prince of Wales check and houndstooth. These traditionally masculine fabrics may make it seem as though the collection is purely menswear-inspired, however it is through the detailing that the femininity of the DAKS woman is expressed: checks in tonal greys are embroidered with silver piping and royal blue stones, and pinstripes here are modelled into long, flowing skirts.

Shades of the London Sky

This season’s colour palette was inspired by the underlying shades of the London sky. DAKS reminds us that it’s not all grey, with the collection boasting hues of navy and royal blue alongside accents of silver (via the accessories). The dreamy pink florals that swept down the runway added a romantic touch to the otherwise structured ensembles.

Roll ‘em Up

Baggy trousers, neatly rolled up to reveal bare ankles, exuded an illusion of cropped pants and dominated the collection. Coordinating coats and trousers seemed to be the go-to combination on the runway, broken by shirts with contrasting patterns, and a classic knit. Each look highlighted the nonchalance of a DAKS woman, who we reckon exudes an effortless kind of elegance, pairing delicate sheer tops with slouched beanies, and wearing outerwear loosely on her shoulders.
