MFW: Dolce & Gabbana SS17

Dolce & Gabbana went “Tropico Italiano” for SS17 and it was everything.

Food Glorious Food

Who ever said that fashion doesn’t like food? For SS17, Dolce & Gabbana looked at classic Italian cuisine that is loved all over the globe – pizza, pasta and seafood. From black dresses adorned with prints of bundles of spaghetti to dresses (that would be mistaken for sacks only seen at a glance) printed with labels for authentic pomodori sauce and “ricotta speciale” pizza, to the pastel pink dress adorned with fish-print, little hints towards Italy’s most famous flavours were everywhere. For those more thirsty than hungry, a black silk cocktail print pyjama top also made its way down the catwalk. Dolce & Gabbana really set out to tantalize your tastebuds.

Coming Together

The finale is always a chance to celebrate the work of the talented designers who put the collections together and at Dolce & Gabbana’s show it was no different. The models walked as a mega-collective, made up of several famous faces (including Hailey Baldwin and Taylor Hill), all in matching D&G t-shirts that poked fun at cheap knock-offs and ultra-mini mini-skirts adorned with shimmering bows. Alongside the models were street dancers from Naples, who made a statement with their fascinating fusion of hip hop and Neapolitan tarantella dance as they made their way around the models and celebrated the show.

Trip To The Tropics

For “Tropico Italiano,” it’s only fitting that Dolce & Gabbana would design a collection heavily inspired by the beauty of the tropics and the power of the exotic. Hints toward warm, tropical seas were scattered throughout the collection, from the lobster earrings to the fishnet dress adorned with embroidered seahorses, corals and fish, making us wish we were under those palm trees that made up the set that sat behind the catwalk. To really get everyone in the mood, Dolce & Gabbana gave out coconuts – to both eat and drink – transporting you to a tropical paradise.
