MFW: Versace SS17

Athleticism plus powerful women equals Versace SS17.

Sporting Goods

Sportswear is the future of fashion for Donatella Versace. For SS17, Versace’s girl is prepared for every eventuality, throwing her windbreakers over delicate slip dresses with lace inserts and finishing off an all-navy ensemble with a classic, luxe rain mac. There were leggings (yes – leggings) in their multitudes, and jersey garments that would suit both a night out and a morning run, while clingy nylon dresses were skin-tight and ruched, pulled in by drawstring detailing. Versace made sure to emphasise the strength in athleticism, energy and sisterhood.

Who Run The World? Girls!

The show began with a soundtrack that announced, “This show is for the women taking chances…Take the leap. Do nothing, we get nothing…Take the leap. Our past is behind us, our future is up for grabs.” Dedicating the collection to the extraordinary women that inspire Donatella, the garments were a testament to powerful women around the world. Citing history-makers Margherita Hack, Rita Levi Montalcini and Gae Aulenti as influences, Versace has created a collection void of limitations and restrictions for free and powerful women.

Muses

For a show celebrating the strength of women, it was only fitting that the front row was lined with women of unparalleled strength, such as world-class tennis player Serena Williams. The catwalk was walked by some of fashion’s greats, including Naomi Campbell, one of the brand’s muses since the 80s, who walked alongside other model royalty Adriana Lima, Mariacarla Boscono and Carmen Kass. Girls of the moment Gigi and Bella Hadid also made appearances, as well as Jourdan Dunn, Irina Shayk, Edie Campbell and Hanne Gaby Odiele. It was the ultimate girl gang.
