LFW: Mimi Wade SS17

Mimi Wade goes to 70s Hollywood for SS17.

Grandma’s Cool

After showing her first collection only one season ago, Mimi Wade exploded on the scene and beaome everyone’s favourite when we found out her inspiration, and Gran (!), was the one and only Pamela Curran. For SS17, there was more of the slightly OTT Hollywood glam, this time courtesy of 70s Japanese sci-fi an d noir movies. So while on Mimimount, a Hollywood Hills parody set for Wade’s show at the Topshop Showspace, the 10 models were clad in candy-coloured slips trimmed with super sexy black and nude lace, off-the-shoulder dresses printed with cherries, love hearts and teddy bears, uber cool leopard print and lace flares and a flaming red leather number. Whilst extra kitsch, hemlines were low and modest, although punked up by unfinished and fraying edges. This has to be the best snapshot of the ultimate dress up box found at your Nan’s loft – alluring but slightly tacky, though in the best way possible, of course.

100% Juicy

If anyone was unsure about Mimi Wade’s great sense of humour, SS17 left no doubt. Dresses and t-shirts were emblazoned with slogans letting everyone know that her garments were ‘Suggested for mature audiences’ and the girls were ‘Peachy Keen’ and ‘100% Juicy’ with an ‘Angel Face.’ It was a lighthearted show, a welcome relief from all the tiring mayhem that fashion week is. Thanks for keeping us sane, Mimi!

Puppy Love

The accessories at Wade’s SS17 were major. Inspired by Granny Pammy’s 10 canine sidekicks, pictures of whom she fashioned into fridge magnets, the flashy earrings, which could be seen from miles away, were little shrines to the her pups. A diamond-shaped photograph was set into a rainbow crystal frame, hanging off a huge pink rock. Others hang with pearls and all the gold in the world. Granny shoes and slippers finished off the look.
