NYFW: Milly SS17

Milly gets inspired by sensuality again for SS17.

Sensuality Part 2

The relationship between purity and sensuality within mother nature was Michelle Smith’s guiding light for her Spring 2017 Milly collection. In the show notes Smith described how the earth awakens, and bursts with life when spring and summer arrives. She smartly incorporated that idea into this collection entitled “Love Knot” by the use of natural fibers like cotton silk. Sensuality has captivated Smith before. For Fall 2016 the designer, who spent time honing her skills in Paris working at Christian Dior Haute Couture and Louis Vuitton before launching her line noted intimacy and seduction as inspiration; the outcome of that was a lot of bare legs and bras. For this spring collection it seems that a women’s sensuality is the secret to bringing the clothes to life, so she’s not baring as much skin as last season.

Color And Prints Collide

The hues of choice for this season included emerald green, sky blue, orange, black, and white and separates took center stage. Paper bag pants that grazed the ankle, midi skirts with large ruffle detailing that start at the waistline and extended down to the hem and bow tie bustiers were just some of the pieces that will find homes in street style roundups come next September during fashion month. The prints used weren’t as great compared to the solid colored garments —the bleached ombre stripe, and the black palm was lackluster though the sash tied maxi in a black palm managed to impress— a natural abstract print did hit the mark. Things normally don’t get too formal at a Milly show but some evening options appeared towards the end. The cobalt and petal pink silk layered floor length gown and a tea length strapless bow tie dress could land a young starlet on a best-dressed list or two.
