Premiere: Mobley – "Solo"

Master of all (musical) trades, Mobley shares “Solo”.

It’s kinda hard to pin down all the components that make up Mobley (real name, the majestic: Anthony Watkins II). The part-singer, part-songwriter, part-producer spent his formative years in different corners of the globe and has composed for stage and TV as well as playing tour dates with groove dreamers, JUNGLE and your scuzzy rock faves, Wavves. Third time lucky has never been truer than in the case of Mobley’s forthcoming debut Some Other Country, which he deemed his first two attempts not quite right, so he started all over again. Oh, and he plays every single instrument on his debut.

Hitting the world wide web today, “Solo” sweeps between electronic dubs and Mobley’s soulful vocals, smooth until sheer force cuts into coarse rasps. Somewhere between a love story and a commentary on social injustice, “Solo” is just as hard to define as Mobley himself. Hip-hop? Electronic rock? Soul? Who knows? We just know we’ll be listening for days.
