A Room With A View: Belsize Park

We kick off our London guide with a trip to scenic Belsize Park.

If one too many bland, identikit rooms and rude concierge have put you off hotels for a while, don’t forget about the liberating pleasures of renting your own place. But as Kirsty and Phil well know, it’s all about location, location, location when it comes to property, and that’s as true with holidays as it is when buying houses – besides, we’re Millenials, so who’s really buying a home anyway? Situated a mere five minute stroll away from Belsize Park and with Swiss Cottage also round the corner, this spot is ideally placed to get straight into the heart of London whilst still avoiding those suffocating crowds of the West End.

Then there are the unique pleasures of Belsize Park itself; in particular, the inventively named Belsize Village is one of the area’s crown jewels. Built on the historic site of Belsize Farm, this stamp of land is full of quirky shops and independent restaurants that make this stretch of North London a truly tempting proposition. It’s none too short on green space either, with the idyllic Hampstead Heath and the bougi paradise of Primrose Hill both within walking distance.

And so to the flat itself. Deliciously period (a Victorian stucco-fronted delight that your Mum would kill for), it’s got that rarefied mix of tradition and modernity that cannot fail to go down smoothly. Plus, with two bedrooms and bathrooms – done up in the height of polished neutrality – as well as a spacious living room and separate kitchen perfect for whipping up some home-cooked goodness, it’s a true find. Those coloured accents ain’t none too bad either. And the handover process? Smooth as it comes thanks to HelloGuest – the premiere Airbnb management service who are just as helpful if you’re a property owner as they are welcoming, efficient and courteous if you’re a visitor lucky enough to be staying in one of the wonderful spots they look after. You can’t ask for much more than that, can you?
