LFW: Clio Peppiatt AW16

Hotel horror stories and beautiful embroidery make for a lust worthy collection at Clio Peppiatt.

Motel Clio

Grand Budapest Hotels meets The Shining doesn’t necessarily feel like a holy alliance, but this season Clio Peppiatt spliced her love of all things hotel related to great effect. Drawing on the playfulness, mystery and seediness of these iconic transient centres for travel, Peppiatt showed cute bell boy suits in green, adorned with pink hats worn at a slight and paired with fluffy bunny rabbit shoes. Clear references were coupled with more wearable pieces such as the black slip dresses with frill detail, beautifully embellished with intricately drawn, bright match sticks. These pieces paid homage to the glamorous and more debauched side of motels: check us in, please.

Fabulous Furs

Famous for her intricate and playful designs, Clio stayed true to form with a series of oversized, long faux fur coats. For one, a patchwork of textures and husky colours came together to create a glam motel-mom type vibe. This jacket was worn over an intricately beaded polar bear slip dress, adhering to Clio’s mantra that “more is more”. A seductive leather trench adorned with blue trim was paired with slinky stilettos, fishnet socks and a cute pearl pink enamel travel case (made by Tatty Devine, of course). The trio was completed by a stand-alone blue design with illustrated detail sewn on.

Modernist Twist

Mixed in with the fun, oh-so-instagrammable array of embroideries and appliqués, which included ’Do Not Disturb’ slogans, dancing women motifs, scorpions, horse shoes and retro matchbooks, were some more paired down pieces that saw the collection take a confident, more grown up direction. Designs included high waisted black flares (teamed with a beautiful mesh top that had beaded hearts sewn over the breasts), cashmere jumpers and a speckled black cropped suit jacket and pencil skirt, made from Linton tweed.
