Gyunel AW16 Video

Watch the Gyunel AW16 video before the label’s digital presentation today at LFW.

With her digital presentation happening today at London Fashion Week, what better time could their be to take a look at Gyunel’s beautiful AW16 video exclusively on Wonderland? Hailing from Azerbaijan, Gyunel Rustamova found success as an artist – showing at the prestigious Cork Street Gallery – before training at both LCF and CSM and eventually launching her own label. Her designs are romantic but darkly twisted, and this season (her 7th Ready to Wear collection) looks to the often forgotten story of teenage Soviet girl soldiers and the challenges they faced both in the theatre of war and, tragically, the judgement they suffered upon return to their homeland.

The video presents a vivid imagining of the collection’s narrative, as a snow covered landscape plays host to an all-female clone army of epic proportions. The designs themselves feature Gyunel’s trademark prints (always fiercely original and crafted in-house) and include structured dresses and military pencil skirts. Elsewhere, buckled boots crafted in Italy and officer style hats continue the millitaria vibes: sophisticated burgundys, oranges and light greys, meanwhile, keep things from looking too army surplus. Watch out for the brand’s digital presentation, showing today from 1:30pm-3:30pm, to get a better look at these stellar pieces.
