NYFW: VICTORIA BECKHAM AW16

Refining her own work, Victoria Beckham perfected her signature style but maintained a relaxed take for AW16.

Reflection

The Victoria Beckham AW16 press release reads: ‘This collection is a statement of the continuing evolution of my personal style and design ethos. I set out to refine key wardrobe pieces in new proportions developed from my signature silhouettes, techniques and fabrications.” We all know that VB is all about updating tradition rather than disposable shock factor and AW16 is no different. Peering back at her first corset dresses, Beckham slipped soft bones into bustiers for a revamp.

Sunny Side Up

Always for the sophisticate, VB’s palette was strictly autumnal in black, white and navy but a slice of summer slid through in warm orange, just a shade darker than the peel of the fruit. Whether it was on stitching that brought a touch of vitality to dark mixes or contrasted against black stripes, it was a much welcomed addition to keep autumn 2016 that little bit brighter.

Falling Apart at the Seams

Parts of the collection looked unfinished – in the best way possible of course – we can’t imagine VB doing anything but making sure every last thread had a considered place and purpose. Flesh flashing cutouts and bare shoulders offered something for the more daring customer and frayed edges stopped the line from being too uptight, too perfect.
