7 WONDERS – GOLDEN GLOBES 2016

We take a look at our favourite Golden Globes moments and put them in a totally subjective list.

Ah the Golden Globes, they might not have quite the same prestige as the Oscars, but that just means there’s more room for A-list fun and games and, of course, getting Ricky Gervais to compere. Yep, having offended well in previous years, the sometimes-loveable, mostly-hateable, man who gave us The OfficeExtras and, unfortunately, Derek, was welcomed back for another round – for better, or for worse. So, in honour of kicking award’s season off with a bang, we’ve compiled a list of our top seven Golden Globes moments: they’re not all Gervais being rude, we promise.

Ryan Gosling & Brad Pitt not sharing a stage

The moment when Ryan Gosling pretends not to want to share the stage with Brad Pitt is a not especially funny slice of banter, if we’re honest, but nonetheless, seeing two of the world’s most handsome men doing their thing is no bad thing. Also, it’s a fine chance to gawk at clean-shaven Brad’s anti-aging powers: Pharrell, check yo-self.

Leo’s awks bump with Gaga

Where did Lady Gaga go? – you may or may not have been asking the past few years. Well, for her performance in American Horror Story she won a Golden Globe. So, there’s you answer. However, on her way to the stage she knocked into (or was it the other way around) a laughing Leonardo DiCaprio. His guilty-but-cheeky face started trending on Twitter – because apparently people don’t have much going on in their lives – and, like all things, can be best enjoyed in this GIF.

Ricky Gervais is offensively funny – maybe. Pt. 1

Okay, now it’s time to to talk about Ricky. He made lots of offensive gags, some of which were funnier than others. This particular insulting rant, aimed at Sean Penn’s recent (unwitting) involvement in the arrest of Mexican drug baron ‘El Chapo’ was one of the not-too-unfunny ones: “You disgusting, pill-popping, sexual deviant scum. I’m going to do this monologue and then go into hiding. Not even Sean Penn will find me … snitch.”

The legendary Jane Fonda refuses to let age erode her legendary style and beauty in a killer piece from Saint Laurent. Oh, and Saoirse Ronan and Tobey Maguire didn’t look bad in Heidi-made creations either.

Ricky Gervais is offensively funny – maybe. Pt. 2

After some jokes at the expense of Caitlyn Jenner’s driving and Roman Polanski’s underage sex charges, Ricky took shots at Mel Gibson by recalling the time he previously took the erstwhile Braveheart down in 2010: “I’m in the awkward position of having to introduce him again. Listen, I’m sure it’s embarrassing for both of us. I blame NBC for this terrible situation. Mel blames…we know who Mel blames. Listen, I still feel a bit bad for it. Mel’s forgotten all about it apparently, that’s what drinking does. I want to say something nice about Mel before he comes out. So: I’d rather have a drink with him in his hotel room tonight than with Bill Cosby.” Whatever you say, Ricky, no one’s gonna be mad at you for throwing some shade on famous anti-Semite Mel Gibson.

J-Law & A-Schu

The internet’z two favourite nu-feminist girls (and all round besties) shared the stage together for some quality double-act fun – plus we find out that Amy’s celeb crushes are Tom Hardy and “all the Hemsworths”.

Leo Wins!

Okay, so it’s not quite an Oscar, but seeing Wonderland ultimate-hero, Leo, take the Golden Globe for The Revenant warms the heart just a little.
