PREMIERE: BLäNK – “GRIP IT”

We get the first listen to ‘Grip It’ from Blänk. An all-round ode to seduction with a syncopated beat and vocals so gravelly they vibrate.

Sweden or more specifically, Lapland (Sápmi), was a world that only had access to traditional folk music before the introduction of the internet. Typically you’d expect the music scene to reflect the sparse landscape, maybe provoking some moody electronica, something dark, something slow. You’d never associate a confident American hip-hop backing and RnB drawls with Scandinavia, until now.

Klas, Lina and Simon of Blänk are creating just that. ‘Grip It’, is their latest single from the forthcoming album ‘Only Built For Northern Lights’, their comeback after a three year gap since the EP ‘Áurinko Rising Again’. It flickers back and forth from feminine whispers, to warped bass vocals, punctuated by dry laughs adding a playfulness. A bold and self-assured track, you’ll find yourself pressing repeat until you can rap along perfectly.
