MSGM – ‘PRINCESS VASILISA’

MSGM have produced a pre-spring 2015 capsule collection inspired by the wonders of traditional Russian fairytale, Princess Vasilisa.

Vasilisa

Made up of ‘fairy-tapestry tale’ prints, MSGM’s latest collection, imagined by Massimo Giorgetti, is a princess’ wardrobe for adults. A slightly darker twist on our Westernised Disney fairy stories, Russian tales typically involve wintry Siberian settings, truly wicked stepmothers and talking wolves. Princess Vasilisa was a beauty who chose a huntsman over a king who demanded her to be his bride. Everyone loves an underdog. The king was also boiled alive, slightly less romantic. So it’s not all tiaras and glass slippers, the collection is brought straight into the 21st century with precise prints in vibrant colours.

Think silk chiffon printed with “Russian Princess” roses and paisley print acetate fleeces, georgette the colour of candy floss and Crêpe De Chine floral print Babushka headscarves. Evening gowns fit for a queen stand beside 60s miniskirts and nylon bombers and parkas while sportswear drips with tassels and trimmings for an opulent and regal feel. Swish around a ballroom, or a bar, in flowing skirts and find a throne to perch on.
