Charlie Bewley of Vampire fame speaks to us about downtime, school time and fashion faux pas’

 

What is your main hobby in downtime?

I dream of being a DJ. Its not a hobby per say, but I’m trying to pick up all sorts of little things. Learn Spanish, DJ-ing, ukelele. Never stop learning.

Who is your style icon?

I love Sam Rockwell, I think everything about that guy is cool. He wears flares still, and he’s just so relaxed and totally wicked. I don’t really have a style, and I don’t really think of him as having a style, but I think he’s really cool.

What was your most hated class in school?

God I was never really big into the sciences to be honest. The interesting thing is, school can be really mistimed, like you can get really into history when you’re like 23 years old stoned in your student flat, all like ‘I really wanna know about the Romans!’ Typically, you’re not gonna be really fascinated in stuff like chemistry when you’re 10 years old and you just wanna run around and kick a ball or something. You don’t want to sit down for 7 hours learning about chemistry until later.

What’s the best present you’ve ever been given?

I think someone bought me an eagle once. Not like a taxidermy eagle, but I got to name a rescued eagle-like a constellation. Someone actually bought me a star once as well. My ex-girlfriend was Canadian and she once dressed up as Santa Claus and came over and gave me a whole bunch of presents. She was awesome, really cool. Canadians are awesome man I’m all about them.

If you could select any male or female actor to co-star with who would it be?

I’d go for Sam Rockwell. Female would be Kristen Wiig.

Whats your biggest pet hate?  

People who text and drive.

If you could be an actor during any decade what would it be?

I’d go back to the golden 50-60’s era. When it was all becoming very rock and roll. The Dean, Brando times…get in that mix. Would be great, wouldn’t it? Seemed like such a golden time. Film now, it’s so saturated.

Most stylish character you’ve played?

Probably the vampire in Twilight. In Eclipse he was just pimp, he was wearing this like mesh gold thing, with a hood. It was awesome.

What was your teenage fashion faux pas?

I think I tried double denim once. The Canadian tuxedo. Shell suits I was into them. I was a more functional dresser but I still am I guess. I just want to know that at any time I would be able to take off my clothes and rip down the street. That’s ideally how I dress. I just like to think that if there was an apocalypse that happened right now I’d be ready.
