WONDERLUST: Dudley O'Shaughnessy

How did you become a model?

I was walking through Old Street tube station with my mum when a lady ran up to me asking if I was a model. When I first started I didn’t really like it. I was shy and wanted to concentrate on my boxing. It was only about a year ago that I got serious about it after I was in the finals for the British boxing squad but didn’t get in, so I stopped. Modelling was a good thing to replacement.

What were you doing before modelling?

I was studying sports at college. I was thinking about going to uni to study sport and media but it meant I wouldn’t be able to box, which I wanted to make my priority.

What do you like to do when you’re not modelling?

Chilling with my mates, going to Nandos, playing World of Warcraft – though I had to stop for a bit as I was playing it too much! I’ve also been watching a lot of films recently.

What’s your favourite film?

Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo & Juliet is my favourite. I’m also a big fan of Quentin Tarantino, Pulp Fiction is one of my favourite films. I could watch it all the time.

What type of music do you like?

It depends on what mood I’m in. Hip-hop, dub step, soundtracks from films like Crash.

What’s your favourite place to hang out in London?

I’m from East London, born and bred but I’m thinking about moving West to Ladbroke Grove as that area’s kinda cool. I hang out everywhere really.

What was it like working with Rihanna?

It was really good fun and she’s so nice. I actually missed the casting for it but my agency got a call saying they were still interested and I got the part. I don’t ever dislike when people recognise me because of it. I think it’s good to get known, especially as I want to be an actor. I usually just say thank you if someone comes up to me in the street. I would definitely think about being in another music video but later in my career.

Do you have a particular photographer you would like to work with?

Yeah, I would like to work with Alistair McLellan and Steven Klein.

What couldn’t you live without?

My family and friends. Oh and sweets! I eat so many, I like the fizzy strawberries, wine gums, hard sweets…. I always have some at home and chocolate in the fridge.

Do you sing in the shower?

Yeah and I talk to myself all the time, too much I think!

What’s been your favourite fashion moment so far?

Doing Stone Island as it was one of my first campaigns. It was such a good shoot and a dream come true for me as lots of boxers do the campaigns, so I’ve always wanted to do it.

What would you like to do in the future?

My Dad’s a trainer so I still box, but acting is what I’m really passionate about. I would love a career like Idris Elba who comes from Canning Town and has a very similar background to me and has been in big films like Guy Ritchie’s Rock ‘n’ Rolla.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Fake people.
